The Leeton Show Society’s Team Penning Sub-Committee and the Josh Hindmarsh Trust Appeal Committee combined to hold an extremely successful fundraiser recently. As previously reported, it is expected that when all outstanding contributions have been received the total profit for the day will reach approx. $10,000. Many locals are aware that Leeton boy, Josh Hindmarsh, suffered a tragic accident on Australia Day incurring serious injuries which have currently resulted in his being assessed as being a paraplegic. These funds will be a huge help but of course ongoing donations are needed as Josh will require continuing medical treatment, specialised care and equipment.
The fundraising day consisted of a team penning competition and an auction of household goods, tools, toys, computers, stock feed and numerous other items all kindly donated by local businesses and individuals. The competitors for the team penning travelled from all over the region and were incredibly supportive and gave generously all day. Auctioneers Chris Johnson and Tyler Pendergast did a wonderful job with lots of laughs along the way to keep the crowd entertained. Garry Heath, Pat Connell and Cathy McKenzie also kept the crowd entertained with some athletic and humorous efforts at penning cattle on foot, dressed in interesting clothing and riding some well-loved broomsticks and managed to succeed! Other activities to raise funds during the day included a small horse sale, raffle and trading table.
It is impossible to thank everyone individually for their support without omitting someone as there were so many people who helped and donated items. However special thanks does need to be given Pat Connell and Garry Heath for organising the cattle, Mick Anderson and his family for providing the cattle, Morris Bros for transporting the cattle, the yardmen who looked after the cattle all day, team penning judge Brian Mansell, office staff and the Auctioneers. Special thanks also to SunRice, all members of both Committees, members of the Show Society and Apex for their help on the day. It was a huge day which would not have been possible without the generous help of many people.
Results from the Team Penning were Open event - 1st Neville Clarke, Russell Noble, Matia Pendergast, 2nd Natalie Isaac, Dan Stewart, Warren Weir and 3rd Bruce Bandy, Col Bandy, Rob Owen; Junior event - 1st Breanna Bourke, Lisa Hutton, Georgie Lomas, 2nd Hannah Conlan, Isabelle Owen, Bonnie Owen and 3rd Jake McKenzie, Montana McKenzie, Matthew Isaac.
The Josh Hindmarsh Trust Appeal Committee will continue to provide opportunities for contributions to this Appeal and donations can also be left at the St George Bank, Leeton.
